Vitor Tavares Mendes (Lisbon, Portugal)

My name is Vítor Tavares Mendes and I was born in Lisbon, Portugal, to Cape Verdean parents. I lived 8 years in London , where I used my dance style as a motivation for young people of all ethnic groups.

In 2002 I took part of a stage dance course and I began to teach Capoeira and traditional African dance. First in Lisbon and from June 2002 also in London. In 2005 I debuted in a musical Sundance by Patti Boulay in London theatre „Hackney Empire theatre“. I gradually enriched my dance style with other dances, such as Kizomba, Coupé-décalé, Kuduro or Abstract dance.

In 2010 I moved to Prague where I also currently live with my family and work. In Prague I joined a Bollywood Dance performance – Shiva’s Wheel of Life at ABC Theatre – Live Musical, Prague Adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s „La Ronde“ at Malé Vinohradské Theatre and at Český lev film awards. On TV you could see me on Česká televize, TV Nova or on Slovak Markíza. My interviews were published in magazines Dieta, Lidé a Země or newspapers Mladá Fronta Dnes and Blesk.

Currently I promote Luso-Afro-Latino culture and music by organizing Afro-Bailar Multicultural Festival since 2010. I have regular courses of Kizomba and Afro-Fitness in Prague and also do dance shows and animations around the whole Europe.

In 2013 I got Fitness Instructor certificate and since that time I also work as a personal trainer.

My motto:
Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be. Being successful is simple, it is about doing things the right way, the right way and at the right time.
